Tasting Notes
As you take a sip of this 2018 Chardonnay, the first thing that hits you is the beautifully elegant taste of ripe pear and green apple, mingling together in perfect harmony. The fruit flavors are balanced out by a subtle hint of sandalwood that adds depth and complexity to the wine. As the wine lingers on your palate, you'll notice a subtle sweetness of honey that rounds out the flavor profile. Overall, this Chardonnay is a perfect balance of fruit and wood, making it a truly delicious and satisfying wine.
Vineyard Notes
Silva Road Vineyard is owned by Ethan Silva and his sister, Josephine and is located in the middle reaches of the Redwood Valley AVA, at an elevation of 975 feet. Here, the Silva Family grows organically farmed Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon on a rocky bench above the headwaters of the Russian River. In contrast to surrounding growing regions, the Redwood Valley is considerably cooler than other areas in the Ukiah valley, producing Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon that slowly matures with elegance and pedigree.
Production Notes
100% French oak 28% new, 33% used once, 39% used three times
Other Notes
*For our 2018 vintage Chardonnay we did not cold stabilize the wine, a process that is often used to remove tartrate crystals from wine before bottling. Some regard the presence of these crystals as a mark of quality showing that the wine hasn’t been over-manipulated in the cellar, but for others unfamiliar with wine making, they may appear unsightly or dangerous. These crystals are composed of potassium bitartrate and are harmless to consume, and won’t affect the bouquet, taste or quality of the wine. In some bottles you may see a small amount of these wine diamonds. We think this may have added just a bit more nuance to an already beautiful wine. Simply pour off these crystals with the first quick splash or let them settle and enjoy the bottle.
